The High Flyers Boys 17 team went 8-2 at the USAV Boys Junior National tournament in Dallas, TX. They entered the tournament seeded No. 2 and went undefeated the first 2 days. On day 3 they met the original No. 1 seed Vaquaros from Puerto Rico and lost a close match in 3 sets. High Flyers won their other 2 matches so they made it to the Gold Tournament. Where they faced Calgary Elite West (the team that defeated Vaqueros on day 2). The High Flyers Boys team lost that match in 2 to finish tied for 5th. So, there only losses were to the eventual Champion Calgary Elite West and to the Runner-up Vaqueros from Puerto Rico.
Jack MacLean and Ben Crusinberry played on the Iowa Region High Performance team which won the Regional division at the 2012 High Performance Championships in Des Moines, IA.
Starlings played a total of 10 matches. They lost once to Nashville in pool play. In tournament play they went undefeated. The championship match was against Hacienda Heights. Starlings won in 3. There are two graduating seniors from this team; Monique Sutton is going on to play at Highland Community College and Shelby Easley is going on to play at College of St. Mary.
21 teams from our region competed in the 2012 national tournament.

Great Plains Open
Saturday, June 9th at the Digz in Omaha, NE
The 2012 Great Plains Open was played at The Digz in Omaha, NE. Twenty teams competed in the Great Plains Open tour stop. Which is one of 26 stops for the USA Beach Junior Tour. This 2 on 2 sand volleyball tournament is a national quaifier for juniors ages 18 and under. The last stop on the tour is the Tour Championship in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 28-29.
The Great Plains Open is a quality sand tournament in it's third year. Complete with certified beach officials and USA Volleyball T-Shirts for every player and volunteer helper.
Medals and bids were given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each age group of 12's, 14's, 16's and 18's.
In the 12's division, two teams from out of state battled for first place. Jaiden Chase and Lacey Angello from Lenxa, Kansas won in 3 sets over Eden Dolzal and Bella Kuechenberg from Michigan City, Indiana. Jaiden Centeno with partner Haley Richards and Morgan James with partner Emma Altman both tied for third. Jaiden Chase and Lacey went on to finish 2nd at the junior outdoor national tournament in Wisconsin.
In the 14’s division, Samantha Duncan with partner Sophia Terwilleger beat Autumn Wood and Jasmine Schmidt to take 1st this year after a 2nd place finish last year. Autumn and Jasmine completed in the tour championships last summer and finished 7th in the 12’s division.
In the 16’s division, the favorite Carly Castle and Addi Thonen, who finished 3rd last year in the 14’s division, beat Payton Lauterbach and Harlee Sine for 1st.
In the 18’s division, last year winner Kayla Haneline, with new partner Kelsey Stratman, battled through sickness this year but could not hold off 1st place winner Miranda Charles and Devynn Patocka, who finished second in the 16’s last year.
